n., va"ri*a*ble: A quantity which admits of an infinite number of values in the same expression.

nARCHITECTS brings an open-ended approach to the design process based on clear diagrammatic thinking and an ability to unite a wide array of concerns into a rigorous and cohesive outcome. Complex client identities, layered sites and phasing requirements are unpacked and reframed as straightforward design opportunities. We are a technically precise team, balancing innovation where possible, with tried and tested approaches where necessary. Our approach to site is nuanced and agile - sensitive to opportunities and irreverent to cliches. We approach environmental questions as both a technical and cultural issue, and seek to surpass current thinking that compartmentalizes performance issues. In short, we achieve simple designs that produce a richness and flexibility of experience, with an economy of conceptual and material means.

nARCHITECTS, PLLC (USA/CANADA) was founded in New York City by partners Eric Bunge and Mimi Hoang in 1999. The studio's work has been recognized internationally as a leading practice with awards, exhibitions and publications in over 15 languages. Recent awards and recognition include selection by MoMA for the Rising Currents Exhibition, two AIA NY Design Honor Awards (2007, 2005), an AIA NY Building Type Merit Award (2008), The Architectural League of New York’s Emerging Voices (2006), an AR+D Mention (2006), the Canadian Professional Rome Prize (2005), Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard (2004), the MoMA/P.S.1 Young Architects Program (2004), and a New York Foundation for the Arts grant (2002).

BUILDINGS nARCHITECTS provides comprehensive services for building exteriors and interiors, from zoning studies through design, construction documents, and contract administration during construction. Our approach, characterized by research, prototyping, and digital technologies, allows us to assist clients in a smooth transition from concept to implementation.

URBAN SPACES + ENVIRONMENTS nARCHITECTS designs public urban spaces and dynamic environments that combine inventive programming, material investigation, landscaping and lighting. We work together with landscape architects, planners and lighting designers to create legible and ecological interventions that are specific to cultural, physical and climatic contexts.

INTERIORS nARCHITECTS designs interiors with the unique identities and needs of their users in mind. We aim to achieve more with less, and creatively transform constraints into opportunities. Innovative uses of materials, light and technology give form to well designed spaces that balance design vision with comfort.

INSTALLATIONS + EXHIBITIONS nARCHITECTS designs exhibitions and installations that provoke interaction and interference. Our architecture, informed by low and high technologies, and innovative construction techniques, explores ways in which both architect and user actively engage in and configure social relationships. We also work in varying capacities with art institutions, artists, programmers, media producers and special fabricators.
