BOOK DISPLAY CASE, GSD, HARVARD UNIVERSITY: FROM SIGN TO FURNITURE, 1996 The book display case was built as a result of a winning entry in a design-build competition held by Harvard's Graduate School of Design in 1996 with the object of displaying GSD publications. The project occupies a position in between the main entry to Gund Hall and the entrance to the Frances Loeb Library, allowing it to be experienced along a trajectory through the GSD lobby as a programmatic shift between two extreme positions - from across the street as a luminous sign, and from the library entrance as furniture. Invisibly cantilevered from the wall, the folded skin of the display case appears to float. . |
